New Wind Farm Planned in Mannar
Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Power and Energy has announced plans to call for tenders for the construction of a new wind farm in Mannar.
This comes on the heels of the successful completion of a 100-megawatt wind farm in the same region.
The senior official from the Ministry of Power and Energy stated that the new wind farm is expected to generate a capacity of 50 megawatts, contributing significantly to the country’s renewable energy portfolio.
In addition to the wind farm, the Ministry has also invited tenders for the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of 165 megawatts. This move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to diversify the country’s energy sources and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The Ceylon Electricity Board said it will purchase the electricity generated by these new projects. The purchase price will be determined by the selected companies or individuals who secure the tenders.
